Love God, Love People, Serve The World
First Steps - One on One Discipleship
Guided by both the Great Commission and the Great Commandment, First Steps is a one-on-one discipleship program that guides new and renewed believers through the first three months of their Christian walk.
Using the First Steps Discipleship Workbook and one-on-one relationships, First Steps allows for greater intimacy and accountability as new believers learn how to love and serve the Lord in a menaingful way; significantly increasing the likelihood that they remain faithful to the Lord and the church. And, once discipled, new disciples can begin to disciple others.
The church excels at reaching the lost. Evangelistic crusades, revivals, church-wide alter calls and personal evangelismhave resulted in millions making decisions to become Christians. But the heart of the Great Commission goes beyond evangelism, and challenges the church to, indeed, make disciples--those who follow the Lord and live in accordance with His Will and Word. So, how do we make disciples and how do we reach and keep the harvest?
The answer is simple: We disciple with the essentials of the faith in a practical and relevant way as soon as possible. Just as a newborn has needs, so the new believer has needs that have to be addressed quickly and expertly. With First Steps, a discipler is equipped to disciple a new believer in a one-on-one relationship using the First Steps Discipleship Workbook, which is written in a ten-lesson format dealing with the topics of assurance, priorities, overcoming temptation and sin, and the spiritual disciplines of prayer, Bible study, fellowship, evangelism and discipleship. This workbook is easy to use, and in just one hour per week, a discipler can disciple another in 10-12 weeks.
